Hugh Christopher Brown is a Canadian musician from Toronto, Ontario. During the 1980s and 1990s, he was one of the singers and songwriters of the alternative rock band Bourbon Tabernacle Choir. In 1996, he and vocalist Kate Fenner formed a folk rock duo, Chris Brown and Kate Fenner. In 1998, he filled-in for Kevin Hearn of Barenaked Ladies while Hearn was battling leukemia. In 2003, he released his first solo album, Burden of Belief. In 2007, he released the album Oblivion with the Citizens' Band (Tony Scherr, Anton Fier, and Teddy Kumpel). In 2010, he was inspired to start the Pros and Cons program, encouraging professional mentorship of inmates. He recorded an album called Postcards from the County with incarcerated men at Pittsburgh Institution in Kingston, Ontario. Brown is the co-founder of the artist run label Wolfe Island Records.
