Marjolin, called for military duty, has cheated on his wife who found out and decided to get even by being a godmother to another soldier, a cook named Brichoux. Brichoux sells his place to Lambrisset who soon makes a pass at the woman. Marjolin's uncle, a colonel, arrives unexpectedly and congratulates his alleged nephew.
