After Partition, Dhaniram and his family moves to Dehradoon. He has three sons: Pran, Kundan, and Madan. Dhaniram runs a chemist shop, when he refuses to co-operate with profiteers, Dhaniram is stabbed and disabled. Pran runs the shop while Kundan moves on to work as a stone contractor.
